Letter to the Editor in the Staten Island Advance written by Matthew McAllister

In pre-pandemic days, I remember being with friends or family and laughing at bad lawyer jokes. You know the ones I’m talking about. The ones where the lawyer is always the brunt of the joke.

Now, with our rights being stripped from us, it is the lawyers who are in the forefront of the fight. I’m sure there are many lawyers fighting for our rights throughout the country. Here on Staten Island, I read about two lawyers in the news fighting to open restaurants, gyms and now schools.

Mark Fonte and Louis Gelormino deserve credit for fighting for the people of Staten Island. The fact that they are doing it without being paid is even more amazing. I assume it is devotion to their profession and our way of life that drives them.

Although I don’t know them and have never met them, I would just like to say, “thank you.”

I also promise to never tell a bad lawyer joke again!
